Summary0008304: No way to sync random subset up to dev. capacity for playlists
Description[x] Sync random subset of selected files up to device capacity option is currently available only for collections that aren't sequential for obvious reasons.
i.e. it is not available e.g. for Podcast collection and for Playlists. As Rusty pointed this is because it's difficult to cut a playlist without affecting it's integrity (e.g. if tracks for a Party playlist are removed at random, the playlist is no longer the playlist it was intended to be).

This implies that it is not possible to Sync random subset of large auto-playlist up to device capacity.

Some aspect of this feature already discussed as item 7) here:

and as item 3) here:

In my case as AutoPlaylist is random simply syncing in order of files on Playlist up to device capacity (which due to conversion is hard to know before sync) would resolve the problem. In any case the AutoPlaylist won't be synced as in MediaMonkey as it's too big, but as sync currently is sorted on (Album) Artist I always end up with the same tracks on the device rendering sync useless.
