Summary0000809: WMA9 Playback Support
DescriptionSince many of the downloadable music stores are using WMA9, we'll need to support it in MM 2.3.

http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=946

Note: Playback support implies playback + other activities that rely on playback such as Volume Analysis. The implementation should also be unicode compatible (filename) and backwards-compatible to earlier WMA formats.

Need to investigate licensing requirements:
I just found out that Microsoft wants even some fee for WM9 encoding/decoding! There's a page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/licensing/licensing.aspx about this, but there's also a number of related pages. I haven't read it completely, I think it's better for you to do so.

As for the request for DRM license I mentioned, it's at http://wmlicense.smdisp.net/licenserequest/

Here are the relevant URLs we'll need:
Standard WM9 Format SDK: http://wmlicense.smdisp.net/EI0U439/91aC29746/download.asp
WM9 Encoding SDK: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=000a16f5-d62b-4303-bb22-f0c0861be25b&DisplayLang=en

Licenses that are required/have been submitted:
1) Acceptance of Eula for Standard WM9 Format SDK: I'll review this
2) Acceptance of Eula for WM9 Encoding SDK: I'll review this
3) DRM Client certificate agreement
4) DRM Transfer certificate agreement
5) WM Encoder 9s distribution agreement

Note: We have the plugin from Ianier. It should be added to the next build.

According to Jiri, the current plugin supports WMA 9 correctly. Need to verify this.

I just tested encoding wma tracks w/o copy protection on WMP 10. MM can't scan or play such tracks at all!!

Tested with 3 WMA encoding formats:
-WMA (plain)
-WMA vbr
-WMA lossless

I'd like to test with Ianier's plugin and see if it fixes this issue; can you include his plugin in the next build?

Note: I also tested the plugin that we received from Ianier and it doesn't seem to play WMP10 encoded files either! (although it does scan WMA(plain) tracks).

More Importantly: I tested in MM 2.2.2 and these files (plain and VBR) DO play properly in it. It seems that this is a regression.

Note: the new version of wmafunct.dll that you posted at: http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2768

seems to resolve the problem.

Ok, so does everything work now?

It will work once you integrate the new version of wmafunct.dll into the build (build 808 only work after I copied in the file that you posted).
