Summary0008028: Window Controls in MM title bar stop functioning in some cases
DescriptionIn build 1397, MM can get into a state where:
a) some combination of 'Minimize'/'Maximize'/'Close' buttons in the upper right corner fail
b) the close buttons in the tabs fail
c) the images in the art browser disappear until MM is restarted
d) the menu bar text appears too low (see screencap)

There seem to be a few different types of steps to trigger this or variants of this issue, but in general, the cause is related to MM not responding well to changes in the status of Aero/Desktop Composition on the system.
Steps To Reproduce1) This occurs whenever the Geiss visualization is used (some users indicated that it also occurs with Milkdrop). As soon as the user exits the visualization
--> MediaMonkey maximizes then minimizes and flashes a couple of times, and then opens with problems a,b,c:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=59298

This doesn't occur consistently, but comment http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8028#c26788 indicates a similar means of triggering the problem by running World of Warcraft.

Presumably, this could be triggered artificially simply by disabling 'Desktop Composition' in Windows 7 performance options.

2) One user finds that problem a) is consistently triggered whenever Windows comes out of hibernation:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=59118

3) In one case, I was able to trigger the problem by resizing Windows, but this isn't reproducible: e.g.
1 Open MM
2 Set size of MM window
3 Close MM
4 Start MM in Window

--> If the window was set to a certain size, then the menu bar appears too low and the corner buttons don't work. The only way to fix this is to resize the Window to a different size and then the bug goes away.

This was experienced by a couple of users as well:

User reported that this is triggered whenever windows goes into hibernation, however, I tested this out and it didn't replicate the issue either.

No rep in 1403, cleared Bug info and left as resolved until we get more info.

Another user provided a clue re. a set of reproducible steps at:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=59182

He indicated that when some games are running, switching to MediaMonkey causes MediaMonkey to flash several times. In some cases when this happens (see the 55s mark of the user's video: http://imageshack.us/clip/my-videos/18/nkl.mp4/ ), MediaMonkey can maximize and at that point will stop responding to the Title bar.

I'm able to replicate the problem with World of Warcraft 3: Demo, available from:
http://www.fileplanet.com/117491/download/Warcraft-3:-Reign-of-Chaos-Demo

I observe that:
1) MediaMonkey interferes with the demo--it pops into focus by itself whenever it is in a non-full window, or minimized to the taskbar.
2) When MediaMonkey comes into focus (either by itself or via ALT-TAB) it flashes several times (as described by the user)
3) When MediaMonkey is minimized to the taskbar before WoW is in focus, then when it comes into focus, it flashes, and the title bar stops responding (as originally described in this bug)
4) When MediaMonkey is minimized to a Window before Wow is in focus, then when MM comes into focus, it flashes, and the title bar _sometimes_ gets corrupted with dual Title bars.

This flashing is caused by disabling/enabling aero (windows will disable aero in some cases). I'm trying to make MM able to change aero usage in real-time, but it's quite complicated because of ThemeEngine. I prefer to push to 4.1 if possible.

Re-raising the priority because of newly discovered problems:
-visualization usage (geiss) triggers the problem
-other issues are triggered (tabs don't close, art in Art Broswer disappears)

The user who reported this issue at http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=59118 has indicated that as of build 1320 (and including 1323), the issue has gotten worse:

For him, the issue occurs whenever coming out of hibernation, and in previous builds he could click on the taskbar icon for MM and that would make the minimize button functional again. After build 1320, the only way to can activate the minimize button it is to use Windows-D to minimize all windows on the desktop.

In build 1426, I just noticed that running full screen mode games also triggers an AV. As follows:
1 Run MM (it was maximized, playing a track)
2 Run Warcraft demo see comment 0008028 #c26788
--> AV (elog attached)
--> Windows message that the program had to be terminated
--> Windows message that compatibility settings were automatically applied to MediaMonkey!!
3 Run MM again and play a track
4 Run Warcraft demo
--> No AV, music keeps playing
5 Close Warcraft demo
6 Let song continue playing
--> At the end of the track, the last 10 seconds repeats endlessly, exactly as described at 0008178

So far I have found 3 issues:
1. AV caused by album art reloading - fixed by me in build 1430.
2. AV caused by refreshing MM main window after switching Aero theme - we know where's the problem, Petr will look into it.
3. Playback problems - will be handled in 0008178.

Just a note re. 2: I can almost 100% reproduce by:
a. Starting the WC demo.
b. Starting MM.
c. Alt-Tabing to the WC.
d. Immediatelly (like 1 sec after WC screen is shown) Alt-Tab back.
e. AV occurs.
