Summary0007769: Irrelevant / too many podcast update buttons
DescriptionThe podcast subscriptions node has tree buttons that aren't required:
1) The Podcast update button (next to 'Subscriptions' node) is always present, even when no podcasts are subscribed (minor issue)

2) Every single podcast subscription has an Update button next to it in the tree. This looks kind of messy (see attached). I would suggest that it's unnecessary to include this tree button for child nodes because tree buttons are only required for presenting actions that aren't presented in the context toolbar, and if child nodes are visible, chances are that the user has already clicked the subscriptions node (and the Update button is therefore visible in the context toolbar).

Note: if there's disagreement re. point 2), then there's a third issue to resolve: the fact that 'Update' buttons are shown for Podcasts that are not active (i.e. for which the 'podcast' button is greyed out).

Rusty, you originally suggested it here: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=2701#c24737

But I also think that it doesn't look well. Leaving the button only for the root 'Subscriptions' node.

1) Still present in 1374

2) Verified, although I agree with is ugliness I did like it's usefulness.

1) After unsubscribing the button remains, even after Collapse/Expand of Podcast node, restart is required to have it removed.

2) Showing node buttons on hover would solve the clutter while still allowing refresh buttons for individual podcasts. If this is thought to be a good idea (I do, or as user setting (always show, show on hover, never show) it should be extended to other nodes like CD/DVD and Portable Devices.

Sounds like an interesting idea, maybe something for MM 4.1, Rusty?

Leaving as resolved. Will enter new bugs to track the suggestions for the future.

The reverse of 1 is also true. When having no subscribed Podcast the refresh button won't show when subscribing to a Podcast until restart of MM.
