Summary0007272: Type column should be renamed to Format, Filename column should not contain extension
DescriptionThere's a Track Property called "type" containing information whether it's music, video, podcast etc. Then there's a field called "type" to chose as a column containing the ending of the file such as mp3, avi, wma, wmv...

Filename column should not contain extension since that information is redundant in such context (it is already displayed in Path and Type columns) and it is more difficult to copy/paste just that, you know, the file name. Or you should implement similar thing as Mp3tag and Total Commanded with option "Select only the file name when renaming (not the extension)" -> when you click on some Filename of some track, only filename part should be selected initially, without dot and extension.

There is some disagreement on the forum about removing extension from the Filename. It is redundant the same way the filename is redundant in the Path column, but this useful information to have in the same column.

Information about type of file (extension) is not particularly useful for someone who has almost all files in same format.

Here is one possible scenario which I use very often. I have many single tracks (not belonging to some album) in format Artist - Title.ext. When I want to find CD cover or information about genre/release year of some track, I need to copy Artist and Title of that track, so it is easiest for me to copy file name without extension and paste that in e.g. Discogs. Currently, I need to position text cursor between last character of filename and the dot, then to press Ctrl+Home and finally Ctrl+C. It would be more practical if I could get initially selected only filename (containing Artist - Title), since in that way I could just press Ctrl+C.

I am not insisting on solution that only filename is displayed. It could stay as it is now, but it would be nice if I get selected only filename when I click on the Filename cell of some track. As I said, same behavior has Mp3tag as well as Windows Explorer since Vista.

It seems to make sense to:

1. Rename 'Type' to 'Extension'. (Setting as Immediate because of Localization).
2. On focus of Filename field select the filename part only, not extension.

The second suggestion is not implemented in 1352:
2. On focus of Filename field select the filename part only, not extension.
