Tested with new Shoutcast site and MM 3.1.0.1236 and did not observe any problems.

i.e.
-Shoutcast radio plays in Shoutcast mini-player by default
-Shoutcast radio plays in MM if user switches to default player (closing MM and restarting also works--setting persists).

My guess is that the user had something blocking a cookie that persists this setting.

My tests showed same. As I replied in forum.

Anyway switching to http://classic.shoutcast.com/ would solve that additional step.

Just retested with setting Browser cookies to clean immediately after page refresh and radios always open in browser.

By default allowing browser cookies is enabled so issue happen only once before user set default player but if users Antivirus do not allow saving of cookies or delete like in my case than user would not be capable to download PLS/M3U and instead of opening MM it will always play radio in browser. Switching to http://classic.shoutcast.com/ and main page solved the issue

reason:
http://www.shoutcast.com/ = tune in to station using http://www.shoutcast.com/popupplayer/popupPlayerConfig.jsp Which checks Browser cookies for cookie shoutcast.com PLAYSELECT and if it either missing or containing shoutcast it will play station in embed player and if it contains other it will play in external player (user will be prompted to save/open .pls). Cookie is controlled by upper right "Configure default player" Option.

http://classic.shoutcast.com/ = tune in destination uses format http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutcast-playlist.pls?rn=6956&file=filename.pls so users are always prompted to save/open .pls) no matter if cookie exists or not.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Clean cookies for shoutcast.com
2. Load http://www.shoutcast.com/
3. Configure Default Player to windows default player
4. Tune In to some Radio station
5. Remove cookies for shoutcast.com or only PLAYSELECT cookie
6. Tune in to same radio station an it will be opened in browser player.

OK, it sounds like an issue, but not an issue that we can fix.

I've added 'todoc' tag, and will document this in the KB.
