Summary0003613: CD Rip: The last track on an enhanced CD can show error although ripped fine
DescriptionUsers have complained that MM regularly fails to rip the last track of an enhanced CD.

I tested this out with Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing using MM 3.0.0.1075 and this is indeed the case.

Steps To ReproduceUser report:

I am using Media Monkey 2.5.5.998

The Debug log was created on a P4 w/2 gb mem. 2 hard drives (1 PATA, 1 SATA), NEC DVD-RW ND2510A. Rather than attempting to rip the entire CD, I just attempted to rip the last track.

The actual error message is: There was a problem reading the audio data. Do you want to try again?

I asked about this in the Need Help section with the user name spudhead71

I cannot reproduce.
I have created a CD Extra (mixed 3 audio tracks and a data)
and all 3 tracks are ripped successfully.

Note: I burnt the CD using MM and Nero, in both cases all is ripped correctly.

So this seems to be somehow related to a specific (manufactured) CDs ?
I wonder if I need "Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing" or whether it is reproducable also on a burnt CD Extra ?

Or the word "enhanced" means something like overburned in the manner of burning more than 80 minutes of audio?

Enhanced CDs are, I think, that the CD comes with content that you need a computer to read. It isn't notable on any other devices, and could be videoes or short music clips.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_CD

I've also created an nrg image of the CD--I can share it via IM.

Note: build 1085 seems to correctly rip the last track, although an error appears at the end of the ripping process.

Ok, please upload the nrg image of the CD to our FTP so that I could reproduce the problem. Thx.

Ludek, I didn't post it because it's 700mb. IM me and we'll share it over IM.

Rusty, I burnt the *.nrg image posted by you and I ripped it (by using 1087) to MP3s without any error dialogs presented. All appear to work fine.
There are 10 audio tracks on the album (Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing) and all is ripped fine.

Any ideas? Did you rip it to MP3 too or to another file format?

Tagging as resolved since you can't reproduce. I'll retest with the latest build.

Note: when I rip, the tracks rip correctly, however, each time the CD is ripped, an error is generated when the last track is ripped.

Retested in 1094 and the problem still exists--after the 10th track I receive an error 'Problem Reading Audio Data'.

Posting a log containing 1 successful rip (non-enhanced CD), and 1 rip that generated the error after the final track ripped (enhanced CD), but still ripped ok.

Setting to 'normal' in case we need to look into this in the future.

Looks like clear issue where MMW do not correctly handle TOC.

I set it for immediate to be checked for triage.

@Peke, could you please get ISO of that CD for me to test?

I tried to replicate by creating Mixed Mode CD as Described here http://cdburnerxp.se/help/miscellaneous/mixedmode , but unfortunately without success and MediaMonkey Ripped CD without problems.

I asked user for ISO. I suspect that There was no Pause and that CD is burned using DAO in CD Plus Mode which was available withing GoldenHawks CDRWin that do not work anymore

User provided TOC and from what I see it is burned without Pause.

Also user can help in Debug.

I analyzed the code and logs I haven't found an issue, MM correctly subtracted 11400 frames (150 seconds for lead-out/lead-in + 2 seconds of pre-gap) between the audio and data session.
Also tested (and also based on your tests) it rips fine. Strange that it fails only on that particular user CD, I will try to buy it (user does not wish to share the ISO), but it may be also drive related.

setting target to 4.1.1

The user symptoms are similar that Rusty had, the track seems to have been ripped fine, just the false show of the error message on his drive.

User also indicated that it only occurs when "Verify ripped tracks" is selected else it won't display any error. He also tried to create a mixed mode cd using infrarecorder and that one ripped fine for him.

Tested 1708 using Surfacing cd.

The final track on the CD seems to rip fine (to my ears) in secure mode, but when 'Verify Ripped Tracks' is enabled, MMW indicates that the last track failed to verify (bad rip or the database has partial/inaccurate data). Note that this also occurs when the rip is done in normal mode.

This defect is tracked at 0012081 .
