Summary0002961: MediaMonkey audio sometimes repeats endlessly
DescriptionThere are several cases, which on occasion, cause MM to repeat a few seconds of audio endlessly:
-Listening to Virgin Radio classic rock: http://www.smgradio.com/core/audio/ogg/live.pls?service=vcbb (commercials sometimes trigger the endless loop)
-Performing a conversion operation while a track is playing and being tagged.

The only way to stop this is to terminate the application.

I'll post a debug log of this as soon as I can reproduce it (it occurs ~1/5 times).

The posted log involved MM playback stopping after a conversion operation. I think it's part of the same bug, but the symptoms were slightly different.

I've uploaded a second debug log in which the bug occurs as described. i.e. a 12-second segment of the song repeats endlessly.

In the log, the only thing that appears to be happening is that the track title in the player is being updated continually.

Particularly the second issue was probably solved by some other fixed in playback on tagging made recently. I wasn't able to reproduce the first problem, please let me know whether you are still able to reproduce it. Btw, wasn't is somehow triggered by losing the connection to the net-radio? In any case, if there's still a bug, it sounds as it's in out_MMDS.dll.

Tested 1051:

-Virgin radio station seems to play correctly

BUT the bug is reproducible by:
-Tagging a file multiple times as it is playing and being converted.
-Enabling and disabling DSP plugin repeatedly during playback
. reproduced with:
. -WaveSurround V3: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/205

Fixed in build 1057.
 - The DSP problem is resolved, but the fix should be related to DSP only.
 - I wasn't able to reproduce the other problem, in case you can, please create a debug log.

Tested using jammix enhancer (enable/disable the plugin via the checkbox) and the bug still occurs.

Jammix enhancer is at:
http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/147820

Tested many times and haven't found much problems - enabling/disabling the plug-in seems to work fine, there were just some problem with it when doing it right before the end of track (i.e. within some 10 seconds before the end). Before trying to fix this (which is a little problematic) I want to make sure that this is the problem you experience, or is there anything else? In such a case, please describe in as many details as possible and include a debug log.

Tested 1057:

-Enabling/Disabling DSP
--> no consistent problem on XP (there was one crash over the course of testing this 0000088:0000200 times)
--> on Vista, consistent crashes (log posted to ftp). Note: the Jammix plugin tested, works fine with Winamp on Vista.

-Tagging while playing/converting: was able to reproduce the bug consistently on XP. The problem seems to occur after the track has finished converting, but long before the end of the track is being played.
Logs are posted to the ftp server.

Fixed in build 1058:
 - Fixed a particular instance of this problem that appears when in_ogg plug-in plays an interner radio, out_MMDS is used as the output plug-in and the stream terminates (e.g. because of a network problem). Then audio repeated endlessly...

I still can't reproduce the other issues. Assigning back to Rusty to test with the next build (added some debug messages and made some changes that can influence the problem) and please generate new logs then and add as many details as possible, e.g. where in the log the problem starts, try to find out more about how is it reproducable, etc.

Tagging as fixed so that I remember to test as soon as the next build is generated.

Replicated this easily by:
-playing this OGG stream: http://www.smgradio.com/core/audio/ogg/live.pls?service=vcbb

-disconnecting network connection

Note: could it be that the endless repeating occurs whenever there's some sort of interruption in the audio (streamed or not)?

I still can't reproduce it - it only happens that the audio repeats for some 2 seconds (because output plug-in doesn't have anything else to play), but as soon as MM realizes that the connection is lost, playback normally stops.

Re-opening for testing. There are numerous reports of this in the form:
a) endless repetition of streams
b) endless repetition of tracks after tagging and quickly skipping:

I'm not sure of what the best way forward is...

I've found 2 ways to consistently reproduce this problem:

1) Tagging large file with large album art during playback, and then playing another track while the tagging operation is in progress. Use the Stefan Molyneux podcast and IMG_0710 and follow the repro steps described at: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22193

2) Renaming a large Alac file during playback. Play the rachmaninov alac file and then edit the filename during playback --> seek bar disappears and MM loops the audio endlessly. Note: this only occurs ~20% of the time.

+3) Timo Beil can repeat it as describe at:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22667

Another way to reproduce this:
1) Play a track (note that the track is one with a long title that scroll--not sure if that's related or not)
2) Manually trigger EL log
3) Click the 'more details' link
4) Press <Esc>
5) Do steps 2-4 again (not always necessary)
--> when the current track ends, it plays the last 12 seconds over and over.
--> when I restart MM all seems normal, except that the tagging bug occurs

I think that this is rather track specific. I found a track in my library that repeats 11 seconds' loop of audio endlessly on its end. It is always reproducible on this track. The track (8-In Strumo.mp3) is attached on our FTP (MMbugs/bug2961/8-In Strumo.mp3).

It looks that we forgot about this issue, changing target to 4.0 in order to look into it, because it is consistently reproducible with the track I have uploaded.

As discussed over IM, assigning to Ludek to debug in_wmp3.dll and review what's going on there (since only he can reproduce).

As discussed over IM with Jiri, there is no suitable solution except using another splitter which could involve other problems, resolving.
