Summary0002960: Auto-conversion fails for many tracks
DescriptionFor some reason, auto-conversion during synchronization seems to be failing for many tracks even though the tracks for which it is failing can be converted normally by MM.

Debug log posted to the ftp server.

Other notes:
-Rebooting didn't resolve the problem
-Manual conversion did fail after a rebooting
-The log shows problems converting both MP3 and OGG tracks
-Switching input plugins to in_mpg123.dll solved the problem
-Switching back to in_wmp3.dll also seemed to solve the problem!!!

There doesn't seem to be anything to be done at this moment, it's possibly some problem deep in WM (except for the fact that there's also one OGG file in the log!). Assigning to Rusty to find out more.

This appears to be the same problem, but for FLAC conversion:

Yes, it's most likely the same problem. Technically, there's an interesting part in the log - sometimes it contains the following:

00396603 932.87780762 [5612] WA Decode, decoder started.
00396604 932.95306396 [2296] **********************************************************************************************
00396605 932.95306396 [2296] This breakpoint is By Design. You are accessing DRM protected content while running a debugger.
00396606 932.95306396 [2296] If you are using Windows Media Player to copy music from a CD, disable DRM protection in the player. Tools menu,
00396607 932.95306396 [2296] Options. Look at the Copy Music window pane and unckeck the Copy protected music box.
00396608 932.95306396 [2296] You will also see this problem if you have the /DEBUG switch enabled in your boot.ini file.
00396609 932.95306396 [2296] **********************************************************************************************
00396610 933.29876709 [5612] WA Decode, Initialized.

However, it isn't always there. It's also unclear, how can this message get there, maybe it isn't directly related to our problem.

One user (Tony Hoare [tony@parkinch.co.uk]) found out that the problem was caused by a single MPC file that was in auto-conversion queue. Waiting for more info and that file for testing...

The track from Tony Hoare is now saved to the FTP server ("Disguises.mpc"). However, when I tested it, it successfully converted to MP3 on an MTP device--despite bug 3199 (i.e. we're still not sure why 3199 occurs in some cases but not others, but it seems that auto-conversion does work with this file).

Tested on build 3.0.0.1045.

Closing.
