Summary | 0021789: Update language statuses (alpha/beta/complete) for 2024.2
Description | In the process of doing MMW language updates over the past week, it became apparent that: - Many of the translations done by chatgpt are inconsistent/of poor quality. This can result in major miscommunications about what certain actions do (e.g. remove vs delete / from a Playlist vs from the Playing list / etc.). - Many of these inaccurate translations are communicated as being complete (i.e. no 'alpha' or 'beta' designator). In the short term we should label languages correctly (until such a time that we've updated the languages in manner similar to the effort that we took for MMA). The general approach I'd recommend is that: - 95% + translated with human verification - no indicator - 50% + translated with human verification - beta - Given the issues with AI translations, anything with no human verification or with less than 50% translated should be considered 'alpha' Jiri, please let me know if you agree with this approach. I don't have a list of which languages are entirely translated by AI, but I've indicated below what I believe the current status is vs what it should be (based on #21543 and the state of translations). Afrikaans ---> ?beta? Catalan Česky/Czech Dansk ---> ?beta? Deutsch English Español (Chile)/Spanish (Chile) Español (Latin America)/Spanish (Latin America) Español/Spanish Français/French Hrvatski/Croatian - alpha Italiano/Italian Magyar/Hungarian Nederlands Norsk (bokmål)/Norwegian ---> beta Polski/Polish Português (de Portugal)/Portuguese - alpha Português (do Brasil)/Portuguese (Brasil) Serbian - alpha Slovenčina/Slovak - alpha Slovenian Suomi/Finnish - alpha Svenska/Swedish Tiếng Việt/Vietnamese - alpha Türkçe/Turkish - beta ---> "" (no indicator as this is now mostly complete) Ελληνικά/Greek Русский/Russian українська мова/Ukrainian Hebrew/עברית ---> ?beta? Arabic/العربية ---> ?alpha? हिंदी/Hindi ---> ?beta? Sinhala - alpha 한국어/Korean 日本語/Japanese(Download) 简体中文/Chinese(Simplified) ---> Beta 繁体中文/Chinese(Traditional)(Download) I've included the full list above, since it's important that the status of the languages matches those that are displayed in the Installer (and in the past, making changes seems to cause issues in the installer list). Next steps: 1) Rusty to agree with Jiri on the proposed approach 2) Rusty to review with Michal, the questionable entries (Dansk, Norsk) and create a complete list 3) Michal/Petr to implement the changes in the languages & installer
