Summary0021786: CD Rip doesn't always successfully rip all tracks
DescriptionWhen ripping a CD (audiobooks seem more prone to this), the last couple tracks often fail to rip verified on the first attempt. Ripping those tracks again will often get a verified rip for those tracks.
Steps To Reproduce1 Rip CD
--> Last 1 or 2 tracks are bad rips
2 Check their checkboxes and re-rip
--> if 1 track the 2nd rip will often rip it correctly, rarely a 3rd rip is needed
--> If 2 tracks, then often the 2nd rip will do the first track of the 2 verified and a 3rd rip is needed for the 2nd track

Disc 12 had a crash on second attempt re-ripping the last 3 tracks on disc. It seemed MM lost access to drive on second track in re-rip. Log added.

Note that on restart of MM the disc wasn't seen until I ejected and inserted it again.

Analyzing the logs and there are really various read errors (including some successful re-reads, but also failed reading of TOC, etc.)..

This really looks like a HW/connection issue, was it only temporal issue with this drive?

This has been tested with 2 different (make/model) drives, it was also previously seen with these drives on a different system where they were connected via USB to SATA connection (now they're internal drives).

I see that you had read type 'Secure read' selected and on the last tracks (that failed to verify) the secure read needed to make the recovery process to re-read the buffers (as it contained inaccurate data),
the recovery process was successful, but then it failed to verify..

Could you please try whether this is consistently replicable with the given Audio CD and drive --> or whether it was a random error?

It is both. As you can see in logs for some discs the rerip does successfully rip one more file each rerip (in most cases). However on some discs it will always keep failing, even on different drives.

Also added new log for disc 14 where MM toast informed track 1 was inaccessible (MM showed it greyed out too). This may be related.

OK,
resolving as by evidence either the drive or the disc(s) are not in a good condition -- therefore the need to re-rip..

That doesn't explain why disc 8 does rip after multiple attempts without issue, nor why on disc 14 MM said track 1 was inaccessible (something that I've see before, albeit it's rare),

3167 Disc 3 Now 80s Alternative Drive 1 (Track 20 bad rip, track 21 error ripping).log is another example of a rip failing to rip all files. This is brand new disc.
The second rip of the full disc did rip all files successfully (after disc ejected and reinserted.

3167 Disc 4 Now 80s Alternative Drive 1 (Track 18 & 19 bad rip).LOG shows 18 & 19 return bad rip (again new disc).

Next log shows 18 & 19 reripped (no disc eject) and 19 coming back with a bad rip (ie. the rerip ripped 1 track successfully).

Did the same disc another time in same drive, and exact same results, First rip 18 & 19 again came back with bad rip. On rerip, 19 came back as bad rip on next rerip it verified as well.

In drive 3, the same disc had track 18 & 20 result in bad rip.
