Summary | 0001896: Support for registration with serial numbers only (no username required)
Description | As discussed over IM, Winferno requires: -Ability to give each user a single serial number that could be used to register the product (without entering a username) i.e. with only license key significant, it might look like: GWFN-0000-0001-SOME-KEYX (though this isn't ideal since it doesn't provide any indication of the product version that it registers) -Ability to retain current key functionality (i.e. ability for key to determine what version(s) of the product are supported) The implementation should: -Be compatible with the standard version of MediaMonkey (since users who purchase a serial via Winferno may, in the future, install a standard version of MediaMonkey -Support upgrades via the standard version of MediaMonkey, without requiring the key to be re-installed (i.e. if they've entered the key into the Winferno version of MediaMonkey and then upgrade to a future version of MediaMonkey, the key should still work). -Allow current style of keys to work as well. This implies that the implementation should be along the following lines: 'Username:' (Note: 'Username' replaces 'License Username'. This field is ignored if the key-type is 'single key', but used if a regular key is entered) 'License Key:' -The About MediaMonkey dialog needs to be modified as follows: --Replace 'User Name' with 'License:'. Field contains: ---'Standard Edition' if not registered ---'VXRX' or 'Lifetime' as appropriate for single key registration ---'VXRX to USERNAME' or 'Lifetime to USERNAME' as appropriate for regular registration The Serial Number Generation tool should allow: -Serial numbers to be generated in batches of X (configurable at runtime, default to 1) -Serial numbers to be generated as plain text, 1 serial number per line

Note: Additional nice to have functionality for the serial number generation tool would be: -Logging of generated serials and account used to generate them -Password protection / account creation so that rights to create the serial numbers can be delegated to the OEM Note: both of these are 'nice to have' (i.e. if it's trivial to implement, which is unlikely). |

There's still a minor problem: The serial number generator only creates V2 serials. It should be configurable at runtime to generate V29, V39, or Lifetime licenses. note: I need this asap in order to provide sample Serials of the various types to Winferno. |

I thought we'll make several versions of the tool based on versions they'll want to distribute. Anyway, I modified it so that version can be chosen and e-mailed it to you. |
