I don't follow, I see the extensions available in funnel filtering under Files to Edit, see: https://www.dropbox.com/s/te9oycye9nrlgep/Screenshot%202021-09-23%2011.05.02.png?dl=0

Or what do you mean?

In Files to edit -> Duplicate Artist/Titles it is very useful to have Extensions column available.

funnel filtering is not enough as it excludes other extensions.

There is no possibility to simply sort Title -> Artist -> Extension which will make things easier for deciding which to keep and which duplicate to delete. Especially if you put Extension as first Column.

Maybe Peke is referring the fact that the corresponding column is called "File type" in file-listing: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qius0zh6170n2zi/Screenshot%202021-09-27%2016.30.03.png?dl=0
But is called 'Extension' in filters/searches.

We should probably unify this, assigned to decide Rusty whether we should go with 'File type' or 'Extension'

Hmm, seeing that in MM4 the column was called 'Extension', but in MM5 it is called 'File type' for some reason (not sure way).

I changed it back to 'Extension' in 2506 -- for consistency.

I believe the original change was due to the fact that most users understand 'file type', and only more technical users understand the terminology 'Extension' (it's hidden from most users) and the fact that Extensions was previously used to refer to Addons.

Note also:
- 'File Types' is the terminology used in the Add/Rescan Options
- 'File Type' is distinct from 'Media Type' (which refers to Music vs Podcast, etc.)

I think that 'File Type' is preferable because it's the more common terminology, but I'm not re-opening this pending MartinW's feedback.

We definitely should use the same term for this throughout. Problems:
a) Extension has also been used for Addons
b) The word Type is also used indicating the type of file

So maybe we could use File Extension instead. It would indicate more precisely what it is referring to. Otherwise I don't have a clear preference either way, as long as the same term is used everywhere.

Both in MM4 and MM5 views Columns named "Type" and "Extensions" are used as
"Type" = Music, Audiobook, TV Series, Video,...
"Extension" = MP3, WAV, FLAC, ....

So 2506 should cover that.

I agree that "File Extension" is general term and accepted to point exactly to text after last "."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filename_extension

Windows folder options also reference to Extension not to file type eg. "Hide extensions for known file types" which cover both our Type and extension to the letter.

OK, so leaving "Extension" like in MM4. Note that it is no longer with a collision with "Addons" (as we renamed Extensions to Addons in MM5)
