Summary0013520: MM Crashes after iPhones "Trust this computer" Message (First use of device)
DescriptionAs reported by user in ticket SHA-923-57399

Whenever an iPhone (or Apple device) connects to the computer (MM) for the first time, the phone displays a message "Trust this computer?". I answer "yes". MM does not show the device and when you disconnect the device (or exit MM) MM creates an application exception message in the background (AV in iTunesMobileDevice.dll crash). Have tried several different versions of MM and latest iTunes with same result.

This is reproduceable. In order to test this you have to go to "Settings" on your phone, then "General", then "Reset Location & Privacy". Click Reset.

With the phone not connected. Run MM.

When MM running, connect phone. You should now get "Trust this Computer?" message.

(I've proven that if you disconnect the phone at this point without answering, MM will crash. But that is a test for later.)

On the phone click "Trust".

You will notice that MM does not recognize the phone even if you refresh screen.

Disconnect the phone (or exit MM) and you will get a crash message.

Even after you clear the error message, some parts of MM still remain in process list (see task manager).

Fixed in 4.1.14.1810 and merged into MM5

I added a new message string:
'Please accept the "Trust this computer" prompt on your device'

After accepting the prompt on the device it will appear in MM interface within 10 seconds (it seems that the trusting process takes some time - based on my tests on iOS 10.0.1)

Some users on the forum indicated that they need to run iTunes to see the "Trust this computer" message.

So I changed the sentence to:

'Please accept the "Trust this computer" prompt on your device. If the prompt does not appear then run iTunes.'

Suggested string changes by Rusty:

---------------------------------------------
Device connection failed.

Please accept the "Trust this computer" prompt on your device. If the prompt does not appear then run iTunes.

-------------------------------------------
i.e. line break in between.
Also, the strings should be separate (we might use 'Device connection failed.' for other messages.
