One suggestion is to allow RAR usage in MMIP packages. This would imply adding it's support to MM.

Follow two posts from mar bex [marbex6@gmail.com]:

IE7 users get their mmip files renamed to zip while downloading. That leads to all kinds of problems.
May I suggest that that we instead could use rar files as mmip files since they are not renamed.

If there is some royalty problems involved with rar files there are perhaps other compressed formats which could be used?

You're quit right. Googling this a bit it reveals that this is a common problem and it seems to have started with IE6+SP2. It has todo with some MIME functionality within IE, whatever that is.

Checking out Winamp's site it seems that they have this problems sometimes:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?&threadid=207976#installing

But their downloadlinks for skins, on their website, doesn't contain any extension. And they works well.
One example:

I also find out that if you zip the mmip file then it gets right, meaning that you can install it from within winrar, winzip or similar.
Test it here:

But I still think its best to use .rar files instead as the base to .mmip files or is it a problem with that?
