Summary0004000: MTP Synch to Zen Vision ignores mask location in some cases
DescriptionFrom the user's reports, MM sometimes synchs to a location other than that defined in the mask.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22716

The strange thing is that another user reported something similar for MM 2.5:
I recently moved my music library and MM to my new pc... Had some trouble with that but that's fixed.. or is it?

Ever since I moved everything from my old pc (XP SP2) to my new one (Vista Home Premium) I can't seem to sync my Zen Vision:M properly. I can connect and MM will find my Zen and will transfer my songs, BUT not the way I want him to... http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif [^]
I've always used these settings in MM:

Sync to: "\Music\<Album Artiest:1>\<Artiest> - <Album>\<Track#> - <Titel>"

This has worked fine over the years, but now MM puts all the songs in the root of my ZVM and only names them <Track#> - <Titel> (just: 08 - Waiting for Tonight.wma, etc. instead of P\Private - My Secret Lover\08 - Waiting for Tonight.wma). Quite frustrating...

I'm hoping someone can help me with this, because I can't listen to my beloved music on my ZVM http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif [^]

--------------------------------

Little update

- I can sync with WMP (but I don't want to http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif) [^]
- MM syncs only 1066 songs, not my 4000+http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif. [^] At 1066 my ZVM crashes/freezes. Don't know if it's because of MM, but with WMP this didn't happen...
- MM places playlists in the proper folder (on ZVM: /My Playlists/) but not my music...
- 'in the old days' MM sync my songs in order by artist, now he syncs them random... (not really sure about this)

Associated WMLOG and debug log are posted to the ftp server.
Since you ask for it here are the specs of my PC:
- Windows Vista Premium 32-bit
- AMD Athlon 5600+
- 2BG DDR2
- 1 DVD-RW
- 1 HD (with two partitions: C:\ [OS] and D:\ [recovery])
- MM 2.5.5.998

- Default plug-ins + last.fm plug-in (scrobbler)
- Zen Vision:M 30GB with latest firmware

I’m really hoping you can help me with this. I love using MM. But it’s rather useless for me if I can’t sync anymore…

More detailed info from a user:
Creative Zen 16 GB (The brand new Zen). Firmware 1.11.04e
I also get the exact same trouble on a Zen Vision:M 30GB 1.62.02e

Just to make myself perhaps even clearer:
- New computer running VISTA 32 bit (Norwegian version, if that might matter, Vista does some renaming of the folders like Program Files, though I see no reason why this might matter at all.
- MM2.5 on XP (old computer) worked just fine with Vision:M.
o The Zen was bought because MM2.5 made the player crach only 10GB full because there seems to be a limit on 1000 or 1024 songs in one folder. Won’t blame MM, no one ever said MM2.5 supported Vista…
- MM2.5 on Vista – moves all files to root
MM3.0 build 1098 WORKS JUST FINE
o I’ve reinstalled build 1098 several times, the problem disappears immediately
- MM3.0 build 1105 – moves all files to root
- MM3.0 build 1109 – moves all files to root

Workaround:
Just tried to install 1109, but replacing d_WMDM.dll with the one from 1098. Works like a dream!

Re-assigning to Jiri to find the best solution.

Fixed in build 1113.
 - I don't know if it fixes the issue, but I added an option to use the threading mode used by build 1098 by writing the following in MM.ini file:

[WMDM]
COMApartmentThreading=1

Verified by user Espen in RC4.

Since this issue is reported from time to time, reopenning in order to try to implement a hack that would work even without the need to modify MM.ini.

Fixed in build 1202.
 - Now it could work well even without MM.ini modification.

I want to reopen this because this issue reappears constantly in the forum and eSupport. It seems to affect a wide range of devices now, not just the Zen. (includes Motorola Droid, Cowon S9, Zen XFi, and Google Nexus One, among others...)

More info/links added to "additional information".

I'm setting this as resolved now, since there will be quite some changes in MM 4.0 synchronization and definitely at least some of the devices mentioned (e.g. Nexus One) will be significantly differently handled. So, let's see based on 4.0 beta testing.
