Summary | 0000288: Improved representation of Inserted CDs vs. Physical CDs
Description | If the user adds a bunch of CDs into the library, then the Library/Locations node gets _filled_ with info, and it's difficult to find which CD is actually inserted. To correct this, 2 nodes should be used: ---Node for physical CD drive that only appears in /library/location when a CD is inserted ---Node for CDs that contains all CDs tracked in the library This cleans up the hierarchy, and allows the user to easy see which CDs are inserted, without having to browse the entire CD collection.

Comment from Jiri in bug #206: It is something against the idea of the Location node - to show all media regardless of their location or their state (inserted/not inserted). E.g. if you have removable HD, it is still there as just another media. However, maybe graying out the media that are not inserted would follow the rest of interface well. (?) Russell's response: I would argue that this is, in fact, how the location node functions. i.e. the only directories that appear are those that contain Tracks. If a medium doesn't contain any Audio Tracks, then that medium should not appear in the Locations node--it's just 'noise' to the user. |

Upon resolution of bug #287, it became clear that the icon that I thought was being used to indicate an inserted CD was in fact being used to differentiate an audio cd from a data cd. Consequently, I would re-suggest something originally proposed in bug #206: The node for physical CDs, should indicate the drive letter on the left side of the label--so that it can be seen!! When it is on the right side of the CD label, it is often obscured by the track list. |

A related issue that should be fixed at the same time is that Audio CDs aren't sorted properly as described at: http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=904 |

See bug #872 for another example of the problems with the current representation. |
