| Description | MM 3.x supports 'My Documents' via both the 'My Computer' and 'Locations' node, however, Vista no longer uses this as the 'home' directory. Here's how the OSes work: Win9x, XP: ...<User>/My Documets/My Music Vista: C:/<User>/Music, C:/<User>/Documents, C:/<User>/Downloads Thus for XP, the current approach makes sense, however, for Vista, the home directory should be C:/<User>/<favorite links> A possible approach that would meet both OSes needs is to make the top level folder called 'Favorites', and include 'My Music' in XP and 'Music' in Vista, and allow the user to configure this as described in bug 0000628. | ||||

Fixed in build 1068. - My Music folder is used for both platforms which seems to resolve all the issues. |

Tested 1068. Generally working well, but I noticed that My music is still missing anywhere that we use a browse folders dialog: -Browse button in Auto-organize dialog -Browse button in Auto-convert -Browse button in Basic tab of 'Properties' -Browse button on Virtual CD config -File Monitor |

btw, my only concern about this approach is that users may not know how to navigate to e.g. 'My Downloads'. |

This issue isn't consistently fixed. e.g. if I go to the 'Locations' node, and click 'My Documents', it just includes the contents of 'My Music' but not the actual 'My Music' folder. Moreover, as previously described, users typically do not know how to get to 'My Documents'. From my perspective, the cleanest solution would be to: On vista, have 'shortcuts' to both My Documents and My Music On Win9x/XP, have 'shortcuts' to My Documents (as in the past) |

Tested 1076 on XP, and it doesn't seem to work. i.e. I now see: Location\My Documents\<Artists> even though \My Documents\ doesn't actually have any Artist subdirectories! I would have expected to see the following on XP: Location\My Documents\My Music\<Artists> |

Tested 1078 and a few issues remain: a) My Computer (on XP) is missing 'My Documents' (it has 'My Music' instead). b) Add/rescan (on XP) is missing 'My Documents' (it has 'My Music instead) (same applies to other browse folder dialogs (e.g. auto-organize). Also, when I tested in Vista, although it generally works, I realized that I didn't have access to some Folders that I wanted (e.g. My Downloads). This makes me wonder whether for Vista it would be better to simply show ...Users/<Current Username>. Not a huge issue, but might be an improvement. |
