Summary0020424: Preview panel: is the view selector really needed
Description1. The button on the right side of the Preview title bar doesn't have a down arrow, but it clearly behaves as a dropdown (showing menu with Artwork options), just like List or Search toolbar buttons that show their dropdown menus, or even the down arrow button next to the title in the Preview title bar (e.g. Playing). If you have a toolbar button without a down arrow next to it, you expect that something happens immediately when you click on that button, but not to see an additional menu.

2. I don't see any reason why this button and its menu exist at such place at all. Why didn't you put these options in the Preview menu that you get with the button on the left side of the Preview title bar?

3. If you really want such button, it should have its tooltip since its purpose is not obvious until you click on it. Also, the maximize and full-screen buttons on the top-right corner of the Preview panel when it shows Visualization could have displayed tooltips, although their purpose is more intuitive.

I think that we took this approach when we added configurability to the preview window and felt that users might often change this on the fly. Unlike the tracklist view selector, this might not be the case, though, for the Preview panel, so we may want to reconsider this for the future.

In the meantime, we're adding a tooltip, so I don't think it's much of an issue.

The current approach to change layout of Preview requires two clicks: one click on the mentioned right-side icon and another to choose layout.

However, you could rename the existing Layout menu item in the Preview menu that opens the Options dialog to the "Options (Preview)" and add the new Layout menu item with sub-menu having the same menu that you get by click on the right-side icon with available layouts. In such case, to change layout of Preview would require also two clicks: one to open Preview menu, then you move mouse to hover the Layout menu item until it shows its sub-menu, and then another click on the wanted layout. That would cause just a bit longer moving of mouse.

And, in such case you could add the Undock icon to the right-side of Preview toolbar instead. The Lyrics panel has it, but not Preview.
