| Summary | 0019005: Artwork: improved editing usability/functionality | ||||
| Description | 1. If playing track contain image that user do not like or it is incorrect there then AlbumArt searcher not allow to search for new image. 2. There is no prompt to to delete existing image (it just flashes quickly and proceed with deletion 3. There is no Obvious manual starting of Album art search (eg. like in Mm5 lookup image). | ||||

1) The current workflow is fine: delete the existing image and look up a new one. Keeping the image search button would be confusing because the user might not realize that looking up an image would replace the existing image. BUT, we could add this functionality if we modified the workflow so that a 'Save' button must be clicked to commit the looked up image. EDIT: after further thought (based on case 4) below), I agree with Peke's original idea that both Delete and Lookup buttons should be available when artwork already exists in order to satisfy the usecase of a user looking up an image and then desiring an alternate image to be looked up. 2) A prompt to delete isn't required. BUT, I agree that MMA shouldn't flash the text that appears just before the artwork is deleted, as it appears so quickly that it isn't readable. 3) That's a good point. In MMA 1.x, so many users weren't aware that tapping an image causes the shuffle indicator to appear, and we're taking the same approach in MMA 2.x for Artwork management. Martin, would it be easy to display an ellipsis on the corner of the artwork, with options for Lookup image / Delete image / Lookup settings (the ellipsis could change color depending on the color of the image). This would have the additional benefit of clarifying what the 'Garbage' (delete) icon does (some users might think that it deletes the track rather than just the artwork). |

4) When the user manually looks up an image in the art view, most users would think that it persists, however, if the user examines the track's properties one can see that the artwork was _not_ saved! I would suggest that either: a) it should work like MMW in which there's an 'unsaved' artwork status which is propagated to all views of the artwork for a track (i.e. the artwork is cached, but the tag isn't updated). This would be cosistent with MMW, but I suspect that it would be a lot of work b) it should automatically save (for manually looked up tracks). This is probably what most users expect. c) it should present the user with options to Cancel/Lookup alternate/Save. This would be consistent with automatically looked up artwork (if the setting is to not save the lookup to the DB), but is probably needlessly complicated, since there are already 'Delete'/'Lookup' buttons (see 1) ). |

1b) As requested at https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=103283 , for 'Unsaved artwork' it would be useful if the user could just swipe down to refresh the artwork. |

5) In the Properties dialog, the workflow should be similar. i.e. if there's no artwork, it should be possible to lookup artwork. |

Got rid of "Update database" from lookup & scrobble Added "Autosave" instead Without automatic saving, user confirmation is required. After confirmation, the whole database is updated. Manual search is performed via the properties dialog. Fixed in build 2.1.2.1300 |

6) Before testing the various issues that have been fixed, the new UI needs some work as it's very confusing, as it unnecessarily presents to the user a number of technical concepts that the user shouldn't have to deal with. It currently shows: [Current image] <Source> . . . [DEL] ------------------------------------ Available artworks . . . . v ---------------------------- Mark to resync Synchronization via Usb or Wi-Fi o-- ---------------------------- Apply to all files in the Album/Series o-- ---------------------------- Lookup options . . . . . . v ---------------------------- . . . . . . . [Lookup image] UI Issues: a) No information metadata for the album is displayed. It would be useful if a small amount appeared for context. Also it would be useful if MMA displayed info about the resolution. b) 'Available Artworks' - This section is confusing. Why is there artwork available that's different than what is shown? - Why, if the user deletes albumart.jpg or the image from the Android media library, and then saves the changes, does the image remain 'Available' even though Properties shows a blank image? - Considering that this is another means of choosing alternative artwork, it should function similarly to 'Lookup' functionality. - [BUG] 'Available Artworks' should be 'Available artwork' (i.e. artwork is plural) - [BUG2] When browsing 'Available Arworks' for multiple tracks, the Android Media Library shows duplicates every time with the duplicate consisting of 2 overlaid images of the same album. c) Mark to resync - This section is confusing. If the user edits track metadata or lyrics, the user doesn't have to 'Mark to resync' the change. The change is synced back to MMW depending on whether or not 'Auto-Sync file metadata from the device to the PC' is enabled--why is this different? d) Apply to all files in the Album/Series - What happens if the user has only synced a single track from the library to their device and enabled this option. Does MMW update all of the other tracks on the next Sync operation? e) Lookup options > - This shouldn't take up space in the UI if it's not relevant - [BUG3] Whenever this option appears (i.e. when > 1 track is selected), the 'Lookup' function is disabled - [BUG4] Considering that this currently only appears when multiple tracks are selected, is there a reason for including 'Title' in the lookup options? Would the following alternative work? [ . Current . image . ] <AlbArtist> . . . . . . . . . . . .<Album> . . . [Delete] . . . . <Source> . . . . . . . . . . . .<Resolution> ------------------------------------------ Apply to all files in the Album/Series o-- ------------------------------------------ Browse available artwork . . . . . . . v [gear] Lookup artwork . . . . . . . . . . . . v Note: - When expanding 'Lookup artwork' the top section would include the search settings. e.g. Image search: _<Artist>; <Album Artist> ; <Album>_ [Search] [Image 1] [Image 2] [Image 3] [Image 4] - The gear would be a shortcut to settings since download location should only be configured _once_. This also means that when the user is browsing for an image locally, the image is associated to the track(s) based on the global setting!! - Images should have resolution superimposed on them to help the user choose - Would it make sense for selecting an image to collapse the selection dialog? OR Alternative 2 There are a number of deficiencies with the above approach: - 'Delete' is de-coupled from editing and considering that currently only a single image is supported, they shouldn't be decoupled. - It's somewhat strange to use an 'Expand' icon to perform a function (rather than just show stuff that already exists). - The [Gear] icon for the global settings associated with where artwork is saved is in a misleading location (and there isn't really a better location). - It's inconsistent with the approach used for lyrics This approach addresses the above: [ . Current . image . ] <AlbArtist> . . . . . . . . . . . .<Album> . . . . . . . . . . . .<Source> . . . . . . . . . . . .<Resolution> ------------------------------------------ Apply to all files in the Album/Series o-- ------------------------------------------ [Settings] . . . [Delete] . [Browse] . [Lookup] Note: - 'Browse' opens an image selector of relevant images already on the device for the user to choose - 'Lookup' opens a similar image selector page, except that editable search terms are displayed at the top 7) Regarding comments at 0019005:0080532 here are suggested changes: Autosave --> Automatically save changes Looked up content is automatically saved. --> Saves the change without confirmation. |
