| Description | When user will burning a CD to the car CD player (MP3's), there could be a problem with showing info on the player's panel. Many of the players supports only US ASCII chars to show on display and non-standard chars are displayed incorrectly. In burning dialog can be a feature to set chars remapping, like : [x] Remap chars in filename [ Configure ] [x] Remap chars also in tag When user will click on Configure button, something like this will appear : -------------------------- | Char | Convert To | |------------------------| | ž | z | | ň | n | |------------------------| | [ADD][DELETE] | | | | [OK] [Cancel] | -------------------------- Remapping in tag will be applied only to tracks prepared for burning and will not be changed physically on HDD (so this change will not be applied to tracks stored in database). | ||||

Note: We have already implemented a function to remaping such a chars in the full-text search area, see http://www.jirihajek.net/MMwiki/index.php/Full-text_search rano <-> ráno Straße <-> Strasse (German sharp s) Ärzte <-> Aerzte (German letters with diaeresis) We could just use this function? But Petr indicated that there are many kinds of car players and user should have an option to define own char conversion. |

Have you seen this issue raised often? If not, might the best approach be something similar to what is done for filenames? e.g.: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=47 |

I agree that function for filename remapping should be used for this. So question is about UI existence for this map. I'm preferring to have any UI where user can change this chars map for better 'cooperation' with his car player. |
