Summary | 0020157: Changing network causes unhelpful error message / technical entry to appear in the Sync Config Wizard
Description | In earlier MMA 2.0 builds, if the user switched the connection of the PC running MMW from Ethernet to Wi-Fi, it would cause a change in IP address, and MMA 2.0 would lose the ability to connect. This seems to be fixed in 1097, however, now, the Sync Configuration Wizard shows something like this on the 'Select Server' panel: MediaMonkey Library (PC name) IP address: 192.168.1.72 http:/192.168.1.74:62514/DeviceDescription.xml Saved media server is inaccessible Most users won't understand what the second entry is or why it has appeared. It's confusing because: - users won't know what the URL is - there's no reference to the server that it actually represents - the string refers to a media server, but the user is actually trying to access the sync server It would be preferable if it showed something like: MediaMonkey Library (PC name) IP address: 192.168.1.72 Server is inaccessible (try restarting the server and then re-running the Sync configuration wizard)

As reported at https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=105289 and confirmed by me, with build 1156 MMA's behavior is problematic and results in complete sync failures. 0 Initiate Wi-Fi sync with MMW connected to ethernet --> Success 1 Switching MMW from ethernet to WiFi, and then re-initiate WiFi Sync --> Global error Connection failed [Sync settings] [Sync now] [Close] 2 Tap 'Sync Settings' and then 'Sync configuration wizard' to switch to the new server --> MMA attempts and fails to connect to the 'old' sync server's IP address and then indicates 'No Server' (this is likely due to an MMW bug that 'MMW crashes/fails to update it's IP configuration after the server's IP address changes') which can result in MMA endlessly attempting to connect to the old server ! Debug log: YCCLQHHFMZ 3 Restart MMW (in order to reset the server IP address) 4 Initiate Wi-Fi Sync --> New server is found, and the user can proceed with synchronization after reviewing the sync profile. Suggested fix would be: 1) an error message that is clearer. e.g.: Sync error Connection failed: Server inaccessible (try restarting the server and then re-running the Sync configuration wizard) 2) if the sync config wizard launches, it shouldn't be able to get into a situation where it endlessly attempts to connect to an unavailable server/IP address. |
