The rationale for the new design is that should the DB be lost, or the user decide to switch to another platform, all the metadata should be easily recoverable. For this to work well there should be a standardized means of relating artwork in that directory to specific tracks. That's why defining a standard naming for artwork images is preferred (esp. for cases where tracks from different albums are stored to a directory).

As pointed out though:
a) in cases where all tracks in a directory belong to one album, it can be assumed that any images are associated with the album (so there's no real need to force a standard naming convention).
b) There might be cases where a user wants to save AA in a non-standard format and retain the existing Image naming (e.g. if the image is also linked by another music app).
c) Some users might want to link to art because MM doesn't currently support saving art in a shared folder.

In light of the above, the follow improvements can be made:

1) Improvement in the current design to better support linking to an image that is already contained within the directory (to avoid having 2 identical images with different filenames). In such cases it might make sense to prompt the user with something like:

Do you wish to delete the original image file ?

[[Yes]] [No]

[ ] In the future, do not ask me.

2) Add back 'Link to image file' as an option in the dropdown when user is selecting a file.

Another bit of feedback re. the current design is that some users are annoyed by the fact that a dialog appears whenever pasting an image and there's no way to avoid it:

Also, the workflow should better support 'Save first image to tag and subsequent images as links' type of workflow.
