Summary0002191: Party mode for MM Gold
DescriptionAs we have already discussed in some closed bug, Party mode should be made partly accessible for Gold users only. One idea was to leave 'MediaMonkey Gold' menu item visible, even if the main menu is otherwise hidden.

I was using the freeware version of another application 'DeepBurner' and it has a 'feature' that is along the lines of what I think we should have (note: this applies to both Regular and Party modes). In the menu bar, there is a 'mini advertisement' for the gold version of their product. It is sort of a wide button that contains changing text/graphics about the more advanced product.

For Regular Mode the text could be:
-Learn about MediaMonkey Gold
-Automatically update your library
-Improved searches!
-etc.

For Party Mode, the text could be:
-MediaMonkey: The Ultimate Music Organizer
-Sync effortlessly with your iPod
-Automatically import data from iTunes
-Tag your tracks with full standards support
-Certified No Spyware or Adware
-etc.

The exact messaging can change, but the point is that there would be a 'thing' that has room for some basic advertising for MediaMonkey.

Try out DeepBurner and let me know what you think.

I'm not sure if this is the right way to go, some users could be quite sensible to this (considering MM to be adware, even though using self-ads).

I'm not saying we can't use it, but since we won't fit it into 2.5, I'd propose to use my original suggestion and decide then if anything should be changed for 2.6.

I don't think that putting 'MediaMonkey Gold' in the menu bar really pushes anyone to upgrade.

Here's another idea that may be better:
Allow party mode to be used by non-Gold users, BUT, do not allow any configuration changes to be made (except perhaps changing the password).

e.g. whenever the user tries to configure any option other than Password, the following appears:

The standard version of MediaMonkey will synchronize tracks exactly as they
Party Mode works in the free version of MediaMonkey with the restriction that it is not customizable. If you wish to customize the way Party Mode functions, please upgrade to MediaMonkey Gold.

To upgrade or to learn more about MediaMonkey Gold, click the 'Upgrade' button.

Raised to immediate because of the need to finalize strings.

The 'MediaMonkey Gold' text itself of course isn't a big reason to go to Gold, but the idea was that Party mode is for parties (isn't it great idea? :), where many people see the main screen and the organizer will hardly want to show 'MediaMonkey Gold' string (i.e. Manu bar) as the top thing on screen. And even if he/she/they do, no problem, it's some more advertising for us.

Ok, so let's go with your original proposal.

Tested in 919. If the user hasn't upgraded to 'Gold' it works correctly.

However, if the user has upgraded to Gold then:
-The MediaMonkey Gold entry appears
-AND, when the user returns to 'normal' mode, the MediaMonkey Gold entry comes back!!

This needs to be fixed before beta 3.
