Summary0011947: Win 8: Videos with AC3 auto-convert without sound
DescriptionWhen MMW (tested with 4.1.1696 & codec 4.1.2.104) attempts to play an AVI file that uses AC3 audio (Video: MPEG4 (XVID), 720x304 (2.35:1), 23.98 fps, 2010 kbps; Audio: AC3, 2 Channel, 48000 Hz, 192 kbps), it plays correctly. This could be considered surprising since the default MM8 AC3 codec should not be usable by MMW (and MMW should generate an error that the codec pack needs to be downloaded, but doesn't).

However, when this file is on the sync list to an Android device (with default auto-conversion settings), the file is converted without an audio stream!

Sample file posted to the ftp server.

It seems, Microsoft AC3/DTS decoder is usable in Windows 8, we can use it there. It gives only silent audio stream in Windows 7 (works only in WMP and GraphEdit), that is why we have forbidden it.

Tested build 1697 with codec pack build 105, and on the first attempt, the sample file (sample-rango) converted. But on subsequent attempts it failed due to a conversion error.

Debug logs uploaded.

According to log, you are trying to autoconvert AVI to OGG during sync, it is not supported. How can I reproduce this strange behavior? Do you have set the right file type for this avi? (i.e. video)

You're right--the file type was set to "Podcast".
Verified the fix on Windows 8.
