Summary0004749: Explorer integration doesn't work correctly in Vista
DescriptionIn Vista, when MM is set to allow multiple instances, the Windows Explorer context menu items (e.g. Play Now in MediaMonkey) don't seem to work correctly.

User observed that multiple instances of MM open up--one for each track.
I observe that MM only plays the first track selected.

I noticed something kind of strange:

When I first install and run MM, with MM restricted to a single instance, then adding multiple tracks to MM seems to work.

When I try doing the same thing with MM not restricted, only one track gets added (this is the originally reported bug).

When I switch MM back to being restricted to a single instance, and then try to add multiple tracks --> Only the first track gets added!!

I've tried on clean Vista installation and can't reproduce. It working as it should.

I've tried on 'almost' fresh VMs and:
-Winamp works correctly every time
-MM consistently only plays the first of a selected set of tracks (the one exception being that the first time I installed it, it worked--but once I changed the config to allow multiple instances, it stopped working--even after I changed it back to only supporting a single instance).

I just completely a completely fresh install of Vista Home Premium SP1. Then installed MediaMonkey and ran it, but didn't import any tracks. Then closed it. Then selected 3 tracks in explorer and right-clicked 'Play Now in MediaMonkey' and MM only plays one of the tracks.

There is definitely a bug.

I can't reproduce, it seems to work as expected under Vista. Please create a debug log.

Also, per IM discussion, decreasing priority.

Note: received the following similar report from a user:
hough I originally posted this problem to the bulletin board when MM3 was
in early beta testing, I've been holding off saying anything more, waiting
until the new version was ready to be released. Now that it is, I have to
say that unless something changes, I'll be staying with 2.5.5.

I think MM 2 was/is a truly great program: it's small, clean, loads fast,
plays all kinds of files, and is fantastic for multi-tagging and managing a
large media collection. But 3.0 is bloated: it's a resource hog and it
takes even longer to load than iTunes (!).

Specifically, my main complaint is this: if I click on an .m3u file, insert
a CD into my drive, or double-click an audio file from Windows (Vista) File
Manager, 2.5 spawns and begins playing IMMEDIATELY. It's absolutely
brilliant. 3.0, however, has been a nightmare since the first beta release,
and the final RC beta isn't any better. If I click on an .m3u file, insert
a CD into my drive, or double-click an audio file from File Manager, 3.0
literally takes 30+ seconds to load and another 30+ seconds to begin playing
the file. (The problem is not with my machine, as it's a brand-new
Dual-Core with a ton of RAM and free of viruses and spyware.)

----------
I'll have to try MM 2.5 on Vista and see if this particular problem is the same as the related issue reported in this bug.

We should ask the user for a debug log - this looks like a very slow start up, which could be caused e.g. by some plug-ins or so.

I think that this may be the same problem:

Here's a report of a user being unable to correctly define autoplay behavior to rip a CD with MM. I suspect it's all part of the same problem:

and another one:

Jiri, this is occuring for a fair number of users. What do you need in order to be able to resolve this? I don't think it's a plug-ins issue....
