Summary0004497: f_aac_codec: Encode settings cannot be changed on non-admin account and some systems
DescriptionAs reported here:

2. It needs administrator rights on XP in order to change its quality
settings.

This seems to be true, but only on Win XP SP2 Home edition, Win XP SP2 Professional doesn't exhibit this problem. Problem is somehow related to way of using COM objects in the plugin. It should be used in the same manner as in f_flac_endec.dll

I'm having a problem, but I'm not certain how it's supposed to work.
-I install MM + plugin as Admin.
-Then switch to 'user' and run MM.
-When I try to encode, I'm able to change the m4a encoder settings, but I get an error that the 30 day trial has expired...even after installing the unlimited version and/or re-installing the trial.

I'm not sure if this is the same as the original bug or not... or if this should be tested differently.

The problem is that the install information is stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MediaMonkey... so they need a per-user installation.

Do you think that we should rather use HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE so that all users could use the plug-in?

I will discuss with Jiri.

Based on discussin with Jiri and Rusty we should use HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE so that another non-admin users could use this add-on around the computer.

Opening a new bug for this.
