Summary0002571: MTP devices do not synch correctly with Windows 2000
DescriptionA number of users have independently reported that plays for sure devices don't correctly synch with Windows 2000. Specifically, this was observed with the Zen Vision:M and the Zen Microphoto, and in both cases, the files seem to transfer to the device, but are not browseable on the device even though they may be present.

I've tested this on Windows 2000 and found synchronization of the Creative Zen Sleek and Creative Zen Vision works perfectly as follows:
1) Install the legacy OS MTP driver from Creative: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?DriverLang=1033&searchString=+P4S_PCDRV_US_1_01_00.exe&Image1.x=26&Image1.y=13
2) Plug in the devices so that they're recognized and unplug them
3) Run Windows Media Player and plug in the devices
--> the devices are recognized
4) Synch tracks
--> tracks are synchronized (but without album art)

When I run MediaMonkey on W2000:
1) Run Windows Media Player and plug in the devices
--> the devices are recognized
4) Synch tracks
--> tracks are copied BUT
--> When I look at the device from within MM, I see 2 /Music directories and only one of them contains the copied tracks (whereas for tracks that have been successfully synchronized by Windows Media Player, the tracks appear in both /Music directories).

Note: I tried using 2 different masks, and contrary to what Robbo wrote, neither worked:
/Music/<Album Artist>/<Album>/<Title>
/Music/<Album Artist>/<Album>/<Filename>

WMlog from the Creative Vision is posted to the ftp server. It is based on the following operation:
- Installed MediaMonkey, loaded one Coldplay album (mp3) in the MM database and tried to sync it with my ZVM.
-The directory format I choose is: \Music\<Artist> - <Album> - <Titel>

There is also a second WMlog from the Creative Sleek which contains:
-Tracks that were synched successfully by WMP9 (by Franz Ferdinand)
-A bunch of other tracks synched unsuccessfully by MediaMonkey

I've created a second log on the creative sleek device that reflects the following:
1) Deleted both /Music directories on the device
2) Synched 3 tracks by 'a-Ha' to the device using MediaMonkey on W2K
3) Synched Several tracks by 'Doobie Brothers' to the Device using WMP9 on W2K
-->tracks synched with WMP9 can be navigated to on the device and played, those synched by MM aren't seen and can't be played
-->upon browsing the device in MediaMonkey, the directories /A-ha/<Album>/... can be browsed, but the Doobie Brothers tracks created by WMP9 are nowhere to be seen!!

The log is called MMLog_creative_sleek2.txt

Note: ignore the first log for the creative sleek--I think I may have erred in my description of what tracks were synched by which application.

I've completed a third round of testing, this time including both debug logs and MMlog synchronization logs. All are posted to the ftp server (debug+synch log on W2K, and debug+synch log on XP).

The logs are based on the following actions:
XP: WMP: Synch Franz Ferdinand
    MM : Synch Patty Griffin

W2K: WMP: Synch Doobie Brothers
     MM : Synch a-Ha

Looking at the synch logs, it's clear that for some reason, on WMP, a large portion of the metadata isn't synched.

Tested with WMDM1, 2, 3 test dlls. None worked.

Here's the exact sequence of events:
1) WMDM1: Synched Beach Boys and Boston to the device
-->Neither could be browsed/played
-->Doobie brothers, still on the device from previous tests could be browsed
2) Connected the device to my W2K machine and attempted to delete the /Music directory in order to delete the Doobie Brothers tracks.
-->The tracks were deleted from the device, but not from the DB--i.e. it was still possible to browse to the 'Doobie Brothers' on the device even though the tracks no longer exist!!
3) WMDM2: Synched Chemical brothers
-->Could not be browsed/played.
4) WMDM3: Synched Depeche Mode
-->Could not be browsed/played.

Synch logs to be posted to the ftp shortly.

Tested 2.5.4.975 with the latest firmware and it is still problematic on the Zen Vision. Awaiting user feedback.
