Summary0002292: Burn CD-RW that needs to be erased fails on one machine -- Raise priority of burns
DescriptionOn one of my machines, whenever I burn a CD-RW that is full and needs to be erased, MM prompts to erase and then erases and appears to burn the tracks successfully, however, afternwards, the disc is unreadable!

This occurs consistently.

I don't know what to do about this without a debug log a mainly without hpcde.log. However, even with these files we probably can't do anything about it, there is either a bug in hpcde or drive firmware.

I've posted 2 debug logs to the ftp server: one for a successful erase&burn the other for a failed erase&burn.

The only difference between the two that I can see is that in the failed operation, MM was playing tracks and I performed a few tagging operations. This would imply that the 'erase' issue is a non-issue--i.e. the issue is that burning is sensitive to other operations being performed.

With that as a hypothesis, I went to look at the Priority of burn operations and found that they default to 'Lower' priority! Shouldn't they be at 'Highest' or 'Higher' (in fact I thought it was previously).

Note: tests of erase/burning data CDs with Nero while tagging/playing in MM show that it usually succeeds (whereas MM always fails), ruling out a hardware issue.

Hopefully raising the priority for burn audio CD and burn data cd will solve this.

Raised to higher, please test it if it works fine for you, thx.

I'm still getting > 50% failures for burning CDs on my machine.

Further testing shows that:
-failures occur whether or not the operation is erase & burn, or just burn.

I think that further testing is required...

Closing. This was related to hpcde.
