Summary0015949: Lower default values in Options > Performance
DescriptionCurrently the default values for utilizing CPU cores (auto-conversion, conversion, ripping, volume analyzis) is set to [All].

This results in various issues:

1) CPU can be easily overheated and the operation crashes (as PC is automatically powered off)
This used to happen on my older laptop (until I cleaned up my CPU fan) during Wi-Fi sync, I had to lower the CPU cores for auto-conversion from [All] to [4]
Peke also had several users with this issue.

2) MM5 UI is expected to be as fluent as possible (also because of zoom in/ zoom out animations when navigating etc.), but the intensive background tasks makes the UI not fluent.

I would suggest to lower the default values to half. e.g. 4/8 ?

Makes sense to me.

a. I just wonder, should we introduce a new value 'Half'? It probably isn't too important, since # of cores doesn't change often (if ever), but seems to be an option.

b. Since 8 cores is no longer a maximum of a workstation, we probably should add new values, probably 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 24 and 28? (as currently, shown only if applicable)

a. I guess that we can use just numbers? i.e. the default [4] when 8 is the maximum

b. we already show all available values (even in MM4), see : https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3f45txrnum8bfw/image_2019_09_18T10_27_31_135Z.png?dl=0

Fixed the default values to half in 2199

b. Ok, I was misguided by the fact that sorting can currently utilize at most 8 threads, which probably is enough though.

Default value for me is 8/16

What about already installed MM5 where All was selected already?

Leave it resolved till we see feedback from users with lower number of cores alike in case of user that have only 4 cores/threads on i3 7100 CPU

OK, I lowered the cores to half also on MM4 > MM5 db update (once the MM4 value was set to [All])

Fixed in 2201

Default core count is cut in half.
