Summary0009439: Podcasts disappear upon second sync to iPod Classic 3G 160GB with firmware 2.0.4
DescriptionThis problem is reported by one user, detailed steps are described in the steps to reproduce. Although we cannot replicate the issue, we finally found what the problem was.
Steps To ReproduceThank you for your reply. Yes, here are the steps I'm using to reproduce this problem every single time. Just to reiterate, I'm using MediaMonkey 4.0.5.1496 and am using the iPod Classic 3G 160GB with firmware 2.0.4. I'm also using the very latest version of iTunes 10.6.3.25.

1) Go into iTunes and click on 'Restore'. It will restore the iPod using firmware 2.0.4. The iPod is now completely empty.

2) I freshly re-install MediaMonkey, removing all traces of the previous version and installing the new one.

3) I now load MediaMonkey, go into the settings and change my podcast setting (for testing purposes) to download 1 of the most recent episodes. Also for testing purposes, I have
not added any music to the library at all. It's completely blank.

4) I subscribe to the podcast link here: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/kermode/rss.xml.

5) MediaMonkey downloads one episode to the default location on my hard drive. This episode now appears in the 'podcast' hierarchy in MM.

6) I now plug in my iPod and it is listed in MediaMonkey. I click on it and choose 'auto-sync list' and I select 'podcast' so that I'm only syncing podcasts. I then click Apply.

7) I now click the 'Sync' button and sync that one episode over to my iPod.

8) I can now eject the iPod once it has finished syncing and then on the iPod itself I browse down to the 'podcasts' section. It says that there is 1 podcast on the device.

9) In MM, I now download the next-newest episode from the podcast feed and once downloaded it appears in the 'podcast' hierarchy in MM. I'm only looking at that section,
not music. I now have two podcasts in that section, the one previously synced and this new one.

10) I connect the iPod again and it is listed in MM. I now click on the sync button to sync over this new podcast. I'm not manually sending the podcast to the device, I have set the 'podcasts' option in the 'auto-sync' list so that I only need to press the sync button to send the latest episodes to the iPod. Once finished, I disconnect the iPod again.

11) When I now browse down once again to the 'podcasts' section on the iPod it now says that there are 'no podcasts'. I can't enter that section of the iPod at all as there
are no podcasts listed. I can also look in the 'music' section of the iPod and this is also completely blank, the podcasts don't show up there.

12) I now close MM and re-connect my iPod. I then load up iTunes again.

13) When iTunes recognises my iPod under the 'Devices' section, it shows the name of my iPod and lists TWO Podcast playlists. One has the two podcasts I synced to the iPod and
the other is completely empty. It appears that the iPod is now reading from this empty playlist and so the iPod doesn't think any podcasts are on the device.

14) I now right-click on the empty 'podcast' playlist and delete it, leaving the other one there. I disconnect the iPod.

15) When I now look on the device, it shows that the two episodes are present in the 'podcasts' section.

16) If I now again load MM, download a third episode from the feed and then sync it, when I check the device again after disconnecting it will say there are 'no podcasts'
again. Once again, if I then load up iTunes that empty Podcast playlist will be back along with another one that has the three episodes on it. If I delete the empty one, the
device shows the podcasts again. I can then replicate this every single time I sync with MM. It appears that MM is generating an empty podcast playlist on the iPod but doesn't seem to do this the first time I sync. It's only from the second sync onwards that this playlist is created every single time. The episodes are definitely on the device because they show up in iTunes on a second playlist, but MM is generating an empty one that the device is using instead of the 'real' one.

I have tried this with two different feeds and both produce exactly the same problem every single time.

I hope the information helps you!
