Summary0006967: DVD playback
DescriptionIt's already partially implemented, but few more features are needed for a full support. e.g.:

1) Chapters and other special DVD features.

2) User should be able to play a dvd without having to navigate ts_video / IFO files. What should happen is that inserting a DVD should cause the DVD node to appear in the root of the tree (just as it does with a CD), and if the user clicks it, the DVD menu should appear.

3) We'll have to verify the DVD Playback (autoplay configuration) -- currently DVDs open in WMP despite the fact that this option is checked in MM.

4) The remaining time on a DVD doesn't display, nor is it possible to use the seek bar

Note that we currently don't plan to distribute DECSS, or MPEG II and AC3 decoder with MM and so user would need to get one somewhere in order to really get DVD playback.

Note: the MS DTV-DVD decoder included with Win7/Vista works fine for Video. The main problem is that an AC3 decoder isn't included.

Yes, we should take advantage of this MS decoder, and set up it better - so it will display subpicture too (e.g. highlighting in menu), and use DXVA, where possible: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd390679%28VS.85%29.aspx

Using MS DTV-DVD decoder in Win7/Vista fixed in build 1381 - fixed subpicture rendering (menu highlighting), fixed occasional wrong AR for 16:9 DVD menus.

Rising priority for immediate triage and set for MM5 due the fact that Win 10 do not have native DVD/BD playback

Agreed.
