AFAICS MM4 never did that either.
ie. I run your steps using MM4, and MM4 restarts with the geometry that it had when I closed it to the tray.
Maybe you were running an add-on that introduced that behaviour?

Am not fully convinced that the request is a good idea.
I have a number of apps which open in the Tray when Windows starts. But if I close them in the Tray using the right click menu, and then manually start them, they all open on screen. It seems to me that this is the "expected" behaviour. Anything else is potentially confusing.

I would also say that current behaviour is expected (especially if it worked this way in MM4 too)

Close to Tray is another View state like the MiniPlayer. MediaMonkey does return to MiniPlayer state, but not to closed to tray state on restart.

I can understand why this is desirable. The problem is that the MediaMonkey tray icon isn't necessarily visible so users may not realize that it's been started minimized in the tray, and will think that MM is starting/crashing. A potential solution would be that whenever MM is minimized to the tray (including on startup), an animation is shown of it minimizing to the tray.

I would suggest that this should only be implemented earlier in a beta cycle, so pushing it to 5.0.4.
