Summary0016884: Ability to Lookup and browse metadata directly from filelisting
DescriptionMediaMonkey 4 has the option to show links in the Filelisting that would take open the browser to find information on the corresponding Artist, Album, etc. on an online source like Wikipedia. This is an important aide to those that manually verify/lookup tags for their media.

Users are requesting it to be added to MediaMonkey 5 too.

--EDIT by Rusty--
MM4 had the ability to lookup metadata externally directly from a tracklist. e.g.
- Context menu > Get info > Wikipedia, Google, etc.
- Click 'Show links' arrow next to Artist, Album, Title for direct access to related content from configured site

In MM5, the intent was to replace this with a combination of:
- Metadata integrated within browser nodes
- The Auto-Tag button
However, neither of these meet the needs that were met by the previous functionality, namely:
- Ability to quickly lookup detailed metadata on the fly without switching out of a list view
- Ability to quickly lookup detailed metadata associated with the field of the user's choice (e.g. based on the Title)
I have personally observed this issue as I'm auto-tagging tracks--when I e.g. need to look up an Album to verify the original release date.

Possible ways of improving this in MM5:
1) Create a 'Show links' addon that users could optionally install.
2) Add the ability to lookup metadata from the context menu
. a) This could be done as in MM4, but this further populates the already crowded context menu along with the variety of lookup options. One way of limiting this would be by changing 'Find more from same...' --> 'Find more from...' and adding lookup options such as 'Google, Wikipedia, etc.'. BUT this would also require that MM detect which field was selected rather than which track was selected.
. b) Alternatively, this functionality could be added directly to the Auto-tag dialog (a window with web content associated with the active track). Given the layout of the auto-tag dialog, this could be implemented as a web dialog that appears below the Auto-tag lookup window, displaying metadata from the selected site (chosen e.g. via a persistent combobox) for the field that was last clicked (in the tracklist or the Auto-tag dialog).
3) Add options to the Preview window allowing the user to choose what the links jump to. e.g. in Tools > Options > Layout > Preview:
When editing is disabled, find more from: MediaMonkey Library, Wikipedia, Google, etc...

Note that this functionality has been already implemented in MM5, but subsequently removed in course of 0014147 (SVN revision 29582)

Added /sampleScripts/showLinks.mmip addon that adds the links back like this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4n69qwyoqleybvs/screenshot%202020-10-21%2000.04.57.png?dl=0
The addon has its own gear button allowing to configure the default search source.

Implemented in 2271.

BTW: By adding the links back I found that links to "HD tracks" are broken now (both MM4/MM5)
And another question: do we want keep the whole list of various Amazon variants?

I guess that the sources like Amozon / HD tracks are no longer needed?

OK, removed Amazon, HD tracks, CD Universe.

So the current available sources in the addon are Google, Wikipedia, YouTube, Library

Assigned to Michal to add the further metadata sources suggested by Rusty (Discogs, Allmusic), targeted as 5.0.1

Closing, the further possible sources for the addon are tracked in 0017882
