Summary0011399: Android Sync Problems
DescriptionI've not done a lot of USB syncing as wifi sync is more convenient. During USB syncing many issues have occurred (not everything has been captured) including loss of files on Playlists (that were already on device and on internal memory), loss of Artwork (for files on internal memory) as well as MMA and MMW not properly recognizing video files on device (only Folder on either would show all video files).

The setup is as follows: Using wifi sync (music files and their Playlists) to internal memory, using USB sync (video files and their Playlists). An important factor to take into account is that the external memory on the device was swapped (from 32GB to a 64GB card) and that the card came from an Asus tablet previously synced with MMW.

Most of the troubles haven't been captured in MMW logs, however some of it may show in the submitted MMA log.

In the logs (on FTP) the process was as followed:
1) Remove all media files on external card
2) Wifi sync to internal media (during wifi sync MMW asked permission to sync to external, which was granted, nothing was selected to sync)
3) USB sync to external
4) Check device in MMW

1) These logs capture that some Artwork is missing from music files wifi synced to internal memory. However these may have been files that were already on device (a random Playlist was synced which could contain previously synced files) (Artwork seemed to have been wiped from nearly all files after some USB syncs, however this isn't captured in logs).
2) Video files synced with USB sync show partially incorrect. Some show in MMA as MP4 files with screenshot Artwork (instead of associated Artwork), and 2 files show as MPEG (incorrect as they are auto-converted MP4 files). In MMW the problem is also evident as the 2 files show as Type = TV whereas the others show as Type = Video (original files are Type = TV). There is also an incorrect Rating (bomb for 01-23), incorrect Genre (Kids; Kids; Kids; Kids; Kids for 01-23) and incorrect Director (Unknown artist; Unknown artist; Unknown artist; Unknown artist; Unknown artist for 01-23).
Additional InformationMMA log submitted (today with title referring to this mantis issue).

Lowlander, from what I see it seems that you tested with MMA 171 in which USB sync is totally broken because of this regression: 0011370

Could you please wipe the device and test with MMA 172+ to confirm that the problem no longer exists?

I mistakenly synced 175 with 1664 today (2 11399.zip) and USB sync failed (Win Explorer frozen) and then restarted PC and did whole process again with 1667 (3 11399.zip) and USB sync failed again (Win Explorer frozen). This is something I often saw with music sync on 4.0.7.

In both cases I first did a wifi sync with nothing selected to sync to device (remove all files, but update play history), remove remaining files on device, restart phone, did a wifi sync to internal (no problems stand out), restart device, did a USB sync to external of video files (which failed in both cases).

New sets of debug logs on FTP.

I analyzed the logs and it freezes when creating 'Video' folder on the device and finally after one minute freeze it failed to create the 'Video' folder.

I experienced similar issue recently with the 'Music' folder on the device, see this:
0011346:0037803 (but in my case the phone reboot helped)

I guess that you cannot create the 'Video' folder anyhow on the device? i.e. despite you use a file explorer on the device or Windows Explorer, right?

Also Peke had one MM user and for him it helped to change all device profile folders from \Music\ to \MMWSYNC\.
So does changing \Video\ to \VideoMM\ in sync mask help?

I also had some others MTP freeze times in the past:

A hunch here is that the problem may be creating folders on device that where manually removed on device by user.

So I changed the folders used to sync to as well as manually created them on the device prior to sync.

Then I did a USB sync of a Playlist containing 2 video files and the video files and Playlist are on device after sync. MMA however doesn't recognize the video files in the Video node, nor the SD card in the Folders Library section. I can browse to the video files in the Files section though (no artwork). Tested video played. Also the Playlist does show in MMA, but without files.

Internal memory music and Playlist seems unaffected by the USB sync.

Debug log 4 - 11399.zip on FTP. Note that device and MMW were restarted between most steps taken.

Doing a second sync properly didn't sync anything (no changes), something that initially didn't work either.

On the last sync (no log) I encountered a problem. Nearly all newly added files to the sync list were synced to the incorrect destination. Instead of the Playlist folder they ended up in an unknown folder.

On the next sync after this (5 11399.zip) MMW wants to resync all video files on device (I terminated sync). It also shows no files in Video node in MediaMonkey for the device.

Removed all files from external SD card, copied storageinfo.xml from previous card.

Did a wifi sync of Playlists to internal and external card [6 11399.zip]. Tracks from both show in MMA library. Problems seen though are that most files on external card have the very best of the gipsy kings artwork associated (Artwork settings were different than for internal) and that sub-playlists of a Playlist with tracks didn't show on device, their files were synced though.

Album Art had the option to sync to albumart.jpg enabled, which associates it with all files in folder (my settings sync all Playlist files to a Playlist folder (no sub-folders)).

Did another wifi sync to both internal and external including 1 Playlist with 1 video file [7 11399.zip].

The sync seems to have mostly worked as files and all but 1 Playlist are in Library. The wifi sync ended with sync error and it seems it errored on the video Playlist.

Did a USB sync [8 11399.zip] with a music and a video Playlist to device. Both were previously synced to device, however music Playlist has mostly new files due to random nature.

Sync seems to have run fine, however MMW shows few tracks on synced music Playlist (perhaps files that were already on device). MMA doesn't show the Playlist at all, however tracks seem to be in the Library.
The video Playlist and its file are still showing as expected in MMA and MMW.

That the Playlist is missing in MMA may be explained by that its parent was removed on USB sync.

Re: On the next sync after this (5 11399.zip) MMW wants to resync all video files on device (I terminated sync). It also shows no files in Video node in MediaMonkey for the device.

MMW reads the content from MMA's DB and there were only files in folder \Music\Car\ so I guess that the Video files were not presented in MMA too for some reason.

Assigned to Marek to analyze the MMA logs.

Did a new wifi sync [9 11399.zip] on latest builds of MMA and MMW and it ended with sync failed. However I see no failure as files and Playlists seem to be there.

 - the sync list is too long and I don't see anything from sync. There are some playlist fixes in build 180 but I am not sure it will be related. In case the issues persist, I will create a special build with much longer log for you.

1CF3FJQ7R5
 - I didn't receive the log but it might be still stored on your SD card in /MediaMonkey/logs . So you can resend it to me. But I think that it will be too short as other logs. And playlist was certainly deleted because its parent was deleted. I think that MMW should not upload tracks of child playlist when parent is deleted, shouldn't it? But we don't have this behaviour implemented in wifi sync confirmations too.

1CF3FJQ7R5 included in [10 11399.zip] and new MMA log BCY9ZJFO8X

First last sync [10 11399.zip] has MMA saying there is nothing to sync to SD while there is a random Playlist (Easy Listening) to sync. It did this also on a previous build for which it had worked previously.

Also seen since last report (may be in MMA log):
1) SD card lost from MMA Library
2) On 185 saw both SD Card and Internal lost from MMA Library (selecting them and rescanning resolved this)
3) USB & Wifi create different entries for same Playlist in MMA.

It's still a no go for SD wifi sync. 11 11399.zip and MMA log FREXRL4MBA.

It's a go for SD wifi sync. It seems that the wrong Device Profile was used (from other device) which revealed itself once I removed the existing Device Profile.

Note that on USB connect:
1) It showed the Device Profile I thought was correct
2) Upon removing it and reconnecting on USB it showed the Device Profile from other device.

Is this still an issue? It was sitting here for one year, resolving to retest with the newest MMA/MMW builds
