0006234: System freezes when accessing inserted CD on some particular Windows 7 systems

We have one report from user on system Windows 7, 1 HD (C Intel Core/TM)2
Quad CPU 2.66Ghz, Ram 4 GB, 1DVD +- RW (D HL-DT-ST DVD +- RW GH50N (a Dell
standard DVD rom reader for Optiplex 960)

Everything goes well but when he tries to listen to a CD or when he clicks
on computer \ d: in the MediaMonkey tree the computer freezes. MM window
can't be closed and the computer cannot be shut down (the only way is to
press phiscally the on/off button. He can listen, rip etc CDs with ITunes
and Windows media player. The problem is in the PrimoBurner engine itself
(we sent to user your ReadCDText sample app to confirm).

I solved it with PrimoBurner and they are releasing 3.0.5 tomorrow. It fixes the problem described (Bug 1546
below).

Version 3.0.5
0006254: Burning Audio CD takes 8 hours on particular HP/Windows 7 system

We have one report from user Craig (Ticket ID ENZ-224979) who purchased a new Windows 7 (64 bit) computer on which burning an audio CD takes 8 hours. He tried also PrimoBurner's AudioCDBurnerU sample app and the result is same (PrimoBurner.log is attached). The issue is drive specific. He tried iTunes and there was no problem with burning the same playlist by using the same drive.

Solving with PrimoBurner...

0006285: Blackberry sync

MediaMonkey can currently sync to most blackberry devices, however:
a) it requires that the user set masks in a specific manner (i.e. confusing for the average user)
b) playlists aren't synced in a manner that the blackberry understands

Note: in order to sync to a Blackberry device, the device must first be configured as a USB MS Device.

Ideally:
i) MM should have a sync profile that would be used whenever a blackberry device is detected
ii) MM's playlist sync functionality would be expanded to support the type of format required by the blackberry (related to 0006255)

0006291: Milkdrop causes MM crash while debugging

On Delphi 2010 and Win 7 while running MM in debugger, simply a click on the list of visualizations causes MM to crash (about 80% of time). I found out that it's caused by MilkDrop dll, which is loaded and unloaded at this moment. I added a short time solution to WinAmpPlugins.pas unit (see SVN commit) that prevents this by not unloading the dll, however we should locate the problem and fix it in Milkdrop.

0: 1-pass CBR (default)
1: 2-pass CBR
0006286: Better handling of iPod's "Compilation" feature

Currently, MM assigns the "Compilation" flag to albums on an iPod or iPhone where the contents of the "Artist" field do not match the "Album artists" field. In many instances, this works well, however there are some exceptions which make the behavior confusing and unwanted.

For example, consider multiple artists tracks. Say you have a track with "Johnny Cash; Joe Strummer" as the artist and "Johnny Cash" as the album artist. Despite having "Use only the first value for Artists / Composers", MM will set this as a compilation album. It can be confusing because you would consider this a Johnny Cash album, not a compilation album.

There are some other instances as well where it can be confusing for users, i.e. small differences between artist and album artist (Beatles vs. The Beatles), typos, spelling errors, etc.

It is also a problem as in the "Coverflow" view for iPhone/iPods, compilation albums come at the end, this can confuse users as they don't realize the albums are classified as compilations and they simply appear to be "Out of place" or "Out of order".

There are several ways to approach fixing the problem, I'm not sure what is best. Pavle suggested over IM we could consider a new method to classify albums as compilations: "instead $IF(<Artist> != <Album Artist> than <Album> = <Compilation>) it should be $IF(<Album Artist> Not containing <Artist> than <Album> = <Compilation>)"

Another approach could be to allow a new field in MM for this (possibly a new "Type" field... Music, Video, Audiobook, Podcast, Compilation - but it may be confusing to have both Music and Compilation separate)
or also there could simply be a "Compilation" checkbox.

Another option would be to disable it completely and just define albums as compilation by "itunescompilation" stored in the file tag, which can be set with 3rd party software, itunes, etc.

0006271: Winamp: IPC_GETRATING Compatibility issue with some plugins

0006284: Auto-tag from filename doesn't work well with dual monitor setup

I am using a dual screen set-up.

When I open any of the "Auto-Tag" dialogues, they open in the same window as the MM, so I move them over to the other screen as I open them, for convenience.
- That is OK.

The "Auto-Tag from web" dialogue stays open after I have clicked the Auto-Tag button. Ready to continue to the next bunch of files.
- That is also OK.

The "Auto-Tag from file name" have no "Auto-Tag" button, and closes when I click the "OK" button.
- That is NOT OK.

I will then have to open it again, move it again, and do the same next time.
This is somewhat irritating.

Either the "Auto-Tag from file name" should stay open, like "Auto-Tag from web", or open in the same place where it was closed, I think.

0006194: Ripping enhanced CDs always generates an error for the last track on some systems

When ripping an enhanced CD, an error is generated on the final track. This has been reported at: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/staff/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=viewticket&ticketid=7054 [^] , and was also reported by another user via e-mail.

I'm able to reproduce the problem with an enhanced CD (Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing), but am not able to create an image of the CD--for some reason, doing so generates an error.

Note: although an error is generated, the tracks actually rip correctly (at least for the Sarah McLachlan CD).

4. Changing other tracks (ie 4 stars to 3 stars) on the iPhone/Touch syncs back to MM properly

Not sure if this affects other iPods as well

0005838: Device node: Send to... playlist fails silently

When I use Send to... playlist on a track in the My ZEN node, the operation silently fails - i.e. no track added, no error.

I suggest MM be changed either fix or don't offer the option.

0006233: Soundcheck support for Album Gain

Currently MM always uses Track gain values to generate Soundcheck values.

It would probably make sense to use Album Gain values if the user has configured MM to play based on Album Gain values.

0006042: Framework: File Types Option Handling Without restarting MM and Windows explorer integration

1. Handling of File Types and Input Plugin allocation
2. Easier File associations according to new features in MM 4.0
3. Optimization of Windows Explorer integrations especially due the recent changes in Windows 7 where even Advanced users needs to use third party utils to change Windows explorer behavior for handling File types

UI Mockups are uploaded to FTP

MediaMonkey can't position PopUpInfo on absolute right when TaskBar is on Left Side and Set Always on Top due to bad positioning in desktop Work Area

0006280: Include basic debug information in Non-debug installs

It would help support efforts if the non-debug version of MediaMonkey included some basic debug information so that we can more quickly solve 'failed startup' issues. Namely:
-Plugins / Scripts loaded
-Scripts that fail to load
-More info when MM freezes at the splash screen

I'm not sure if this is possible, but these issues occur often enough, that it would be helpful.
